HARIO Craftsman Series – Imari Porcelain

The Kaneko family established Imari Tōen with the goal of preserving the traditional techniques of Arita and Imari ceramics while producing pieces of the highest quality.

To achieve this, they invited renowned Kyoto ceramic artist Takujin Sawada, to help establish Imari Tōen. Built upon exceptional craftsmanship and design, the kiln has continually pursued originality while maintaining an uncompromising spirit, striving to blend tradition with modernity.

The fusion of craftsmanship and HARIO's modern Switch dripper embodies the meeting of a traditional and modern world through the lens of art. 

This modified V60 dripper is a hybrid method that allows you to brew like a standard V60 pour over or immersion brewer. Simply add ground coffee, a standard 02 V60 filter and hot water. Let the coffee steep and flip the switch to start the draw down process. 

Hario's ceramic drippers are made from Arita-yaki, a traditional style of Japanese ceramics with a 400 year history. Each dripper is handmade by a local craftsperson and, coupled with its functional beauty, create a stunning contrast between the traditional and the modern.

Swimming Koi:

The koi swimming upstream symbolizes overcoming adversity.

The "Swimming Koi" motif reflects the spirit of the artisan's way of life.

Through countless trials, mistakes, and refinements, they continually pursue beauty and challenge themselves to improve. Even in difficult times, they never lose their joy for life, pressing forward with the same determination as a koi swimming against the current.

Brocade Plum Blossom:

The Dyed Brocade Plum Blossom Pattern is based on the traditional color palette of old Imari ware, while using a bold and expressive design to capture the beauty of plum blossoms.

The flowers and buds are painted in blue and accented with gold edging, showcasing the distinctive brushwork and artistic style of the master potter.

While respecting tradition, the artist also embraces innovation with great passion. This Plum Blossom Pattern embodies both their free-spirited creativity and their willingness to challenge themselves through new forms of expression.

Gold and blue plum blossom:

The artist strives to preserve the symbolic meaning of traditional motifs while breathing new life into them.

The Gold-on-Blue Plum Blossom Pattern blends the serene depth of rich blue with the brilliance of gold, conveying a timeless beauty that transcends generations.

Wanli Floral:

The Wanli Floral Pattern is based on the vibrant color palette traditionally associated with Wanli-style porcelain. Its design departs significantly from traditional Imari porcelain motifs, reflecting the artist's pursuit of beauty unconstrained by conventional boundaries.

While respecting ancient traditions, the artist continually challenges and transcends those established frameworks through new forms of expression. From this spirit, the Wanli Floral Pattern was born.
