A Hario collaboration with Tachikichi, a world-renowned Japanese maker of ceramics, founded in Kyoto in 1752.
The history and craftsmanship of both brands come together in the modern form of Hario’s Switch Dripper.
This modified V60 dripper is a hybrid method that allows you to brew like a standard V60 pour over or immersion brewer. Simply add ground coffee, a standard 02 V60 filter and hot water. Let the coffee steep and flip the switch to start the draw down process. The dripper comes with a 40 pack of tabbed 02 white filters.
Hario's ceramic drippers are made from Arita-yaki, a traditional style of Japanese ceramics with a 400 year history. Each dripper is handmade by a local craftsperson and, coupled with its functional beauty, create a stunning contrast between the traditional and the modern.
Chōjū-Giga
The Chōjū-jinbutsu-giga (鳥獣人物戯画, lit.: animal-person caricatures) is a set of picture scrolls dating back to the 12th-13th century. They depict anthropomorphic rabbits, monkeys and frogs, among other animals. It is thought that it was also satirical, as monks are made fun of by depicting them as animals. The scrolls are designated as a national treasure in Japan, and are by many credited as the 'first manga' (Japanese comic).
The Chōjū-Giga Switch depicts the famous scene of the frog and rabbit wrestling, as well as a rabbit chasing a thief with a long stick.
Marumon Shonzui
Shonzui (祥瑞, lit.: good omen/auspicious) is a type of Japanese pattern that features auspicious symbols like pine, bamboo and plum blossoms on a larger, geometrical tortoise-shell pattern. Marumon shonzuipatterns feature these elements arranged within circles, and are cherished as highly auspicious motifs.
Senmen Chirashi
The opening and closing of a hand fan symbolizes progress and prosperity. The random placement of the fan-shapes with senmen chirashi (扇面散らし, lit.: scattered fan motif) evoke a sense of movement, and symbolize beauty and good fortune within Japanese culture.
